Suspension Repair

Suspension Repair Services in Van Nuys

Your Local Suspension Experts

Your suspension keeps the tires planted, the body stable, and the ride controlled over the pavement you actually drive in the San Fernando Valley. Heat, stop-and-go traffic, freeway expansion joints, speed bumps, and uneven surface streets wear bushings, joints, shocks, and struts. When those parts loosen or leak, you feel it in the steering, hear it over dips, and see it in the tires.

AutoAid has served the San Fernando Valley since 1979. Our ASE-certified technicians inspect, diagnose, and repair suspension systems on commuter cars, trucks, SUVs, and luxury vehicles. We follow OEM procedures, use quality parts, and explain what we find before work starts.

Call (818) 296-0782 to schedule an inspection.

Signs Your Vehicle Needs Suspension Repair

A warning light is not required. Many worn ball joints, control-arm bushings, and strut mounts show up first as noise, a change in steering feel, or uneven tire wear.

Bring the vehicle in if you notice:

  • Clunks, knocks, or rattles over bumps, driveway aprons, or speed humps
  • Excessive bouncing after a dip, or a ride that feels harsh and unsettled
  • Pulling, wandering, or a steering wheel that no longer sits straight
  • Uneven tire wear, especially on the inner or outer edge
  • Nose dive under braking or body roll that feels new
  • One corner sitting lower than the others
  • Fluid on a shock or strut body
  • Vibration that changes with speed or started after a pothole impact

Makes and Models That Commonly Need Suspension Work

Valley heat ages rubber bushings. Heavier SUVs and trucks load ball joints and control arms. Luxury and performance models add adaptive dampers or air springs that fail in specific ways.

The vehicles below are the ones we see most often for suspension service:

  • BMW 3 Series, 5 Series, X3, and X5: thrust-arm and control-arm bushings, sway-bar links, shocks or struts, and air-suspension components on equipped models
  • Mercedes-Benz C-Class, E-Class, GLC, and GLE: control-arm bushings; air springs and compressors on AIRMATIC-equipped vehicles
  • Honda Accord, CR-V, and Odyssey; Toyota Camry, RAV4, and Highlander; Lexus RX and ES: struts, sway-bar links, and lower control-arm bushings at higher mileage
  • Ford F-150, Explorer, and Escape; Chevrolet Silverado, Tahoe, and Equinox; Ram 1500: ball joints, control arms, shocks, and leaf-spring hardware
  • Audi A4 and Q5, plus Nissan and Infiniti crossovers: control arms, links, and strut mounts

Common Suspension Services We Perform

  • Inspection and diagnosis of noise, lean, pull, and uneven tire wear
  • Shock and strut replacement
  • Control-arm, ball-joint, and bushing replacement
  • Sway-bar link and bushing service
  • Coil-spring and strut-mount replacement
  • Air-spring, height-sensor, and compressor diagnosis on equipped vehicles
  • Wheel-bearing service when play or noise is present
  • Four-wheel alignment after geometry-related repairs
  • Related steering components when they affect alignment or safety, including tie-rod ends

We do not replace parts by guesswork. Diagnosis comes first so the estimate matches the issue.

What to Expect When You Work With AutoAid

You can book online, call (818) 296-0782, walk in, or use the after-hours key drop. Pickup and delivery and shuttle service are available when you cannot wait at the shop.

Tell us what you feel and hear: a clunk over speed bumps, a pull on the 101, a steering wheel that sits off-center, or tires wearing on one edge. Those details help us plan the road test and the inspection. We start with a road test when it is safe to do so, then put the vehicle on the lift and check shocks, struts, springs, control arms, ball joints, bushings, sway-bar links, mounts, and related steering parts.

A diagnostic fee applies for that evaluation. The visit includes a courtesy multi-point check so related wear is not missed while the vehicle is already in the air. You receive a written estimate that separates work that should be done now from items that can wait until the next service. We explain our findings in plain language and do not start the repair until you approve it.

Once approved, we install quality parts to manufacturer specifications. If the repair changes suspension geometry, we follow it with a four-wheel alignment so the new parts are set correctly.

Time in the shop depends on the job: a pair of links or a single bushing can often be done the same day when parts are on hand; strut pairs, multiple control arms, or air-suspension repairs take longer. We give you a time range with the estimate.

Newly installed parts are covered by our 3-year/36,000-mile warranty, excluding rebuilt or remanufactured components and friction wear items. When the vehicle is ready, we review what was replaced and what we recommend watching at the next interval.

What You Gain From Suspension Repair at AutoAid

Worn suspension parts change how the vehicle brakes, turns, and tracks. Replacing the failed joint, bushing, or damper restores the control the system was designed to provide. Under hard braking, the nose stays more level. In a lane change or around a freeway on-ramp, the body does not roll as far. The steering wheel is more likely to stay centered, and the vehicle is less likely to wander on uneven pavement.

Tires last longer when camber and toe stay where they belong. Inner-edge wear on a Valley commute is often a suspension or alignment issue, not a tire that simply “wore out.” Fixing the cause before you replace the set keeps the new tires from following the same pattern.

Ride quality usually improves as well. A clunk over driveway aprons, a bounce after a dip, or a harsh hit on freeway joints is often a loose mount, a worn bushing, or a shock that no longer controls the spring. Those noises and impacts drop once the worn part is gone.

You also leave with a written record of what was found, what was replaced, and what can wait. That makes the next service visit simpler and gives you a clear picture of the front and rear end instead of a single line item on an invoice.

The Value of a Shop You Can Trust With Safety-Critical Work

Some repairs affect how the vehicle stops, steers, and stays planted on the road. Those jobs are not convenience items, and AutoAid does not use them as a reason to sell extra parts you do not need. The value of our shop is the way that work is handled from the first inspection through the warranty after you leave.

At AutoAid, trust starts with a clear diagnosis. Our ASE-certified technicians show you what failed so you can see the wear yourself. You get a written estimate that names the problem and separates what should be done now from what can wait. No one starts the job until you approve it. That is the standard in our Van Nuys shop. We find the source of the complaint instead of quoting a long parts list because one related item is worn. Quality parts are installed to manufacturer specifications. The same process applies whether the vehicle is a daily commuter or a luxury SUV.

The work is backed after you leave. Newly installed parts carry our 3-year/36,000-mile warranty, excluding rebuilt or remanufactured components and friction wear items. If a covered part fails early, it is AutoAid’s problem to resolve, not an argument you have to win with a service writer.

If a recommended item is not needed yet, we say so and note it for the next visit. If the vehicle is safe to drive home with a later repair date, we will tell you that as well.

When you come to AutoAid, you should leave knowing what we found, what we fixed, and that we stand behind our work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you charge for diagnosing suspension problems?

Yes, we include a diagnostic fee for suspension repair services to thoroughly evaluate your vehicle’s suspension system. Our skilled technicians use cutting-edge diagnostic methods to pinpoint the specific issue, ensuring we provide targeted repairs that restore your vehicle’s stability and comfort. Every service comes with a complimentary 38-point courtesy check for cars and trucks, at no additional cost. This detailed visual inspection allows us to catch any other potential concerns, helping you maintain a smooth and safe ride.

Can you give a suspension repair estimate over the phone?

We know a quick phone estimate is appealing, but suspension problems often require a detailed diagnostic to uncover the true cause. Providing a quote based solely on symptoms could lead to addressing only part of the issue, which might result in further repairs and expenses down the line. Our in-depth diagnostic process ensures we tackle the root problem, saving you time and money while keeping your vehicle’s handling smooth. Let’s schedule a diagnostic visit to provide a detailed, accurate estimate tailored to your suspension repair needs.

How do San Fernando Valley roads and heat affect suspension parts?

Heat hardens and cracks rubber bushings. Repeated impacts from uneven pavement, speed bumps, and freeway joints loosen ball joints and wear shocks and struts. Vehicles that sit in the sun and then commute in traffic often need bushings and dampers earlier than the same model driven mostly on smooth highway.

Will my vehicle need an alignment after suspension repairs?

In most cases, yes. Replacing control arms, ball joints, struts, or other geometry-related parts changes alignment angles. We align the vehicle after those repairs so the tires track correctly and the new parts are not fighting a previous setting.

Can AutoAid service air suspension and adaptive dampers?

Yes. We diagnose air springs, lines, height sensors, compressors, and electronic dampers on the luxury cars and SUVs that use them. We confirm the leak or electrical fault before recommending replacement.

How long does suspension work take?

Simple link or bushing jobs may be completed the same day when parts are on hand. Strut pairs, multiple control arms, or air-suspension repairs take longer depending on parts availability and the alignment. We will give you a time range with the written estimate.

AutoAid is great. I had been going to another mechanic for years and he only ever did the least necessary. On a recommendation from a friend I brought my car in for an oil change. The did the oil change and a full inspection and discovered everything the last guy had simply never bothered to look at. Their recommendations for service all came with photo or video documentation so I could see exactly what was going on. They gave me a clear picture of what was urgent, what needs looking at soon and what can wait. That allowed me to make a plan to get things fixed on a schedule that works for my budget. The team is thorough and service minded. I was treated very well. I will send all my friends here and will continue to bring my car here for all its needs as long as I am in Southern Cal.

Because of street work I had to park my car on the street and I had my catalytic converter stolen. They were very efficient in getting me a rental car, working with my insurance company, replacing my part and checking to see if everything was okay. Will definitely come back again

I went to AutiAid today for an AC diagnostic test. The team was thorough and professional but it was the owner, David who really made my visit great. He was extremely helpful and empathetic on what is the hottest day of the year (not great timing for an AC issue). David did right by me and we spent nearly half an hour just talking about family and growing up in the area. A rare experience in today's world with an extraordinary owner.

I got a 30k mile checkup for my Hyundai. They checked all my car’s systems. No up-selling, just a recommended oil change. Friendly service and they provided a free shuttle to and from my house while the car was being worked on. I will definitely return!

Before moving to LA most of the service done on my car was by a trusted family friend. After moving here I was so happy to find Autoaid. They treat me like I’m a friend and their service is impeccable. Update: I am still as satisfied Customer several years later. I bought a new car three years ago and much rather go to Autoaid for service, then to the dealership. They are courteous, kind, and transparent about repairs that might be needed. And their work is always excellent!
