Chevrolet Repair Services in Van Nuys

Why San Fernando Valley Chevy Owners Choose AutoAid

Your Chevrolet is built to work hard. In the San Fernando Valley, that usually means heat, stop-and-go traffic on the 101 and 405, short trips mixed with long commutes, and plenty of miles on Silverados, Equinoxes, Tahoes, and Malibus. When something feels off, you need a shop that knows Chevy systems and gets you back on the road with honest and reliable service.

AutoAid is a family-owned shop and has served Van Nuys and the greater San Fernando Valley since 1979. Our ASE Master Certified technicians service Chevrolet cars, SUVs, trucks, and vans, whether your vehicle needs an oil change and A/C service or engine, transmission, brake, and electrical repairs.

We follow manufacturer service standards, use quality parts, and back newly installed parts with a quality warranty. If a recall or warranty issue applies, we will help you sort it out. We also offer pickup and delivery, shuttle service, a secure key drop, walk-ins, and upfront estimates with no hidden fees.

At AutoAid, we understand that you need accurate diagnosis, honest recommendations, and work that lasts. Schedule your appointment today.

How to Know Your Chevrolet Needs Service or Repair

Bring your Chevy in if you notice:

  • A check engine, traction, or reduced-power light
  • Rough idle, misfire, ticking from the engine, or a sudden drop in fuel economy
  • Hard starts, stalling, or hesitation when merging
  • Transmission shudder, delayed engagement, slipping, or harsh shifts
  • Brake pedal that feels soft, grabs, pulses, or makes noise
  • Steering pull, vibration at highway speed, or a humming that grows with speed
  • Sweet coolant smell, rising temperature, or low coolant
  • Weak A/C, warm air from the vents, or A/C that fades in Valley heat
  • Oil spots in the driveway or oil that drops between changes
  • Burning smells, smoke, or unusual exhaust odor

Do not wait on these:

  • Overheating
  • Brake warning light or a pedal that sinks
  • Loud knocking or a collapsed-lifter tick on a V8
  • Loss of power steering assist
  • Fluid leaking under the vehicle

If you are due for mileage-based service such as oil, filters, fluid exchanges, spark plugs, coolant, transmission service, or a multi-point inspection, bring it in on schedule even if the vehicle “feels fine.” That is how you avoid the expensive repairs we see after skipped maintenance.

Chevrolet Models We Repair at AutoAid

We service all Chevrolet models, including:

  • Chevrolet Silverado 1500 / 2500 / 3500: The workhorse. Commuter trucks, contractor trucks, and family trucks all show up with oil-consumption questions, lifter noise on 5.3L and 6.2L V8s, 8-speed shudder, brake wear, A/C issues, and suspension wear from loaded hauling.
  • Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban: Full-size SUVs that live on school runs, weekend trips, and towing. Same V8 platform concerns as the Silverado, plus A/C condenser damage, transfer-case and 4WD issues, and brake jobs from the vehicle’s weight in traffic.
  • Chevrolet Equinox: One of the most common compact SUVs on Valley streets. Older 2.4L models are known for oil consumption and timing-chain wear. Newer Equinoxes still need careful cooling-system, transmission, and A/C attention in this climate.
  • Chevrolet Traverse: Three-row family SUVs. We regularly see cooling-system leaks, oil leaks, shift-quality complaints, and wear items tied to passenger and cargo use.
  • Chevrolet Malibu: A daily sedan for Valley commuters. Common visits include maintenance, electrical and sensor faults, A/C performance, and transmission behavior.
  • Chevrolet Colorado, Trax, Trailblazer, and Blazer: Midsize trucks and compact crossovers used for city driving and canyon weekends. We handle scheduled service, brakes, cooling, electronics, and drivability diagnosis.
  • Chevrolet Camaro and Corvette: Performance models need precise diagnostics, quality fluids, and technicians who will not treat them like a generic commuter car.
  • Chevrolet Express vans: Fleet and work vans need reliable turnaround. We service commercial Chevys as part of our fleet work.

If your model is not listed, bring it anyway. If it is a Chevrolet, we work on it.

Common Chevrolet Repairs We See

Chevy problems cluster around a few well-known systems. We diagnose the actual cause instead of throwing parts at a code.

  • Engine and valvetrain: On many 5.3L and 6.2L V8 Silverados, Tahoes, Suburbans, and Camaros, Active Fuel Management / Dynamic Fuel Management lifters can collapse. Owners often describe a tick that follows engine speed, a misfire, or a check engine light. Left alone, that can damage the camshaft. We also see oil consumption, oil leaks from gaskets and seals, misfires, and ignition-coil or plug failures.
  • Timing chain and oil use on smaller engines: Equinox and related 2.4L Ecotec engines are known for oil consumption and timing-chain wear. A rattle on startup, low oil between changes, or a timing-related code should be inspected promptly.
  • Transmission behavior: 2015–2019 trucks and SUVs with GM’s 8-speed can develop torque-converter shudder, often described as driving over rumble strips around 25–45 mph when the transmission is warm. Other Chevys come in for harsh shifts, delayed engagement, or fluid service that was skipped for too long.
  • Cooling system: Valley heat finds weak water pumps, thermostat housings, hoses, and radiators. Overheating is not a “drive it until Friday” problem on a Chevy V6 or V8.
  • Air conditioning: A/C is not optional here. We see low refrigerant, compressor wear, and condenser leaks, especially on full-size GM SUVs where the condenser sits exposed to road debris.
  • Brakes and suspension: Stop-and-go Valley traffic plus vehicle weight equals frequent pad and rotor work on Silverados, Tahoes, and Traverses. Wheel bearings, worn bushings, and alignment issues show up as noise, vibration, or uneven tire wear.
  • Electrical and emissions: Batteries and charging systems fail faster in heat. EVAP purge valves, sensors, and lighting or infotainment faults are common. We also handle California smog-related repairs when a Chevy will not pass.
  • Routine wear items: Oil changes with the correct spec oil, filters, belts, batteries, spark plugs, and fluid exchanges prevent a large share of the “sudden” failures we diagnose.

Why Regular Maintenance Matters for Your Chevrolet

Routine maintenance for your Chevrolet is not an upsell; it is how these trucks and SUVs reach high mileage without an expensive surprise.

By maintaining your vehicle:

  • You protect the engine. Correct oil, correct interval, and oil-level checks between changes matter on AFM V8s and 2.4L Equinox engines. Low oil is how a cheap missed change becomes a rebuild conversation.
  • You keep the transmission cooler and cleaner. Heat plus traffic is hard on automatic transmissions. Fresh fluid and filter service, when due, is far cheaper than a converter or unit replacement.
  • You stay comfortable and safe in Valley heat. Cooling-system service and A/C inspections prevent the two failures that ruin a July commute: overheating and no cold air.
  • You spend less over the life of the vehicle. Replacing pads before they score rotors, catching a small coolant leak, and fixing a misfire before it ruins a catalytic converter are the difference between a planned invoice and an emergency one.
  • You keep resale and inspection readiness. A documented service history helps when you sell. It also helps a Chevy pass smog instead of failing for an ignored EVAP or engine-management issue.
  • You learn what your specific Chevy needs. A 2016 Silverado, a 2012 Equinox, and a 2021 Traverse do not share the same weak points. We maintain the vehicle in front of us, not a generic checklist.

The Advantage of Bringing Your Chevy to AutoAid

  • Technicians who already know these vehicles. We diagnose Chevy-specific patterns like lifter tick, 8-speed shudder, Equinox oil use, Tahoe A/C leaks, and the sensor faults that trigger a light.
  • ASE Master Certified work, not guesswork. We use professional diagnostics and follow manufacturer standards. You get a clear explanation of what failed, why, and what happens if you wait.
  • Quality parts and a real warranty. Newly installed parts are backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile nationwide warranty (excluding rebuilt or remanufactured components and friction wear items). Ask us about coverage details on your specific repair.
  • Honest scope. We do not pad estimates with work your Chevy does not need. If something is recommended but not urgent, we will say so and help you prioritize.
  • Convenience built for your schedule. Pickup and delivery, shuttle service to home or office, key drop, and walk-ins. Hours are Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • One shop for the whole vehicle. Maintenance, brakes, suspension, A/C, electrical, engine, and transmission work stay under one roof so you are not bouncing between specialists.
  • A family shop that has been here since 1979. Jack Bulko built AutoAid on straightforward service. His son Dave continues that standard. You are talking to people who live and work in this Valley, not a rotating service-writer desk.

What Happens When You Bring Your Chevy to AutoAid

  1. You schedule, drop off, or request pickup. Call (818) 296-0782, walk in, or use pickup and delivery if needed.
  2. We inspect and diagnose. We do not quote major repairs from a phone description. An accurate Chevy diagnosis needs the vehicle, the scan data, and a technician who has seen the pattern before.
  3. You get an upfront estimate. We explain the findings, the options, and the cost before work begins. No hidden fees.
  4. We repair it to spec. Quality parts, manufacturer standards, and a road test when the job calls for it.
  5. We review the work with you. You should leave knowing what was done, what we watched, and when the next service is due.
  6. Your warranty travels with the repair. Coverage on newly installed parts is there if you need it later.

The lounge is available if you wait; coffee, TV, space to work, and a kids’ area.

AutoAid is great. I had been going to another mechanic for years and he only ever did the least necessary. On a recommendation from a friend I brought my car in for an oil change. The did the oil change and a full inspection and discovered everything the last guy had simply never bothered to look at. Their recommendations for service all came with photo or video documentation so I could see exactly what was going on. They gave me a clear picture of what was urgent, what needs looking at soon and what can wait. That allowed me to make a plan to get things fixed on a schedule that works for my budget. The team is thorough and service minded. I was treated very well. I will send all my friends here and will continue to bring my car here for all its needs as long as I am in Southern Cal.

Because of street work I had to park my car on the street and I had my catalytic converter stolen. They were very efficient in getting me a rental car, working with my insurance company, replacing my part and checking to see if everything was okay. Will definitely come back again

I went to AutiAid today for an AC diagnostic test. The team was thorough and professional but it was the owner, David who really made my visit great. He was extremely helpful and empathetic on what is the hottest day of the year (not great timing for an AC issue). David did right by me and we spent nearly half an hour just talking about family and growing up in the area. A rare experience in today's world with an extraordinary owner.

I got a 30k mile checkup for my Hyundai. They checked all my car’s systems. No up-selling, just a recommended oil change. Friendly service and they provided a free shuttle to and from my house while the car was being worked on. I will definitely return!

Before moving to LA most of the service done on my car was by a trusted family friend. After moving here I was so happy to find Autoaid. They treat me like I’m a friend and their service is impeccable. Update: I am still as satisfied Customer several years later. I bought a new car three years ago and much rather go to Autoaid for service, then to the dealership. They are courteous, kind, and transparent about repairs that might be needed. And their work is always excellent!
